Kashihara Terraced Paddy Field

Beautiful terraced paddy fields selected as one of the “Top 100 Terraced Paddy Fields in Japan”.

You can see its beautiful scenery of farm village and surrounding area, and the scenery varies from season to season. Residents in the farm village made a good effort to restore a number of water mills to polish rice along the valley. The slopes are covered with not only concrete or block retaining walls but also dry masonry retaining walls where plants and creatures inhabit. Its simplicity and beauty were created by an advanced technology from the past. That is why the terraced paddy fields were selected as one of the Top 100 Terraced Paddy Fields in Japan.
