Iya Heike Festival

The Taira Clan (Heike) was defeated by the Minamoto Clan at the Battle of Yashima on February 19, 1185, and the surviving warriors escaped separately. According to the legend in Iya district, Taira no Kunimori and his troops protected Emperor Antoku, and went into deepest Iyayama.

Various events such as “warrior processions” and traditional arts based on the legend are shown in the Iya Heike Festival.
