A Message from the Government

Welcome to Tokushima Prefecture

Welcome to the Governor’s Corner. My name is Masazumi Gotoda, and I am the governor of Tokushima Prefecture.

Many rural areas, including our prefecture, are facing a silent crisis consisting of an aging
population, an outflow of youth, and a labor shortage resulting as a consequence. Tokushima is presently in the midst of a critical competition of regional revitalization that will divide the winners from the losers.

In order to emerge victorious from this fierce battle and pass on the wonderful prefecture of Tokushima to the future, we will move forward, undaunted by the harsh circumstances, and accelerate our future-orientated challenges with a hands-on-approach and emphasis on seeing things from the perspective of Tokushima’s citizens. As well, we will proactively strive for the realization of policies that are founded in the concepts of improving security, attractiveness, and transparency.

Tokushima is a prefecture overflowing with wonder. Known as a producer of Awa Ai indigo and the birthplace of blue LEDs, Tokushima is what you could call a land of sustainability. Additionally, it is a natural place with a treasure trove of foods made possible by the abundant nature, as well as a spiritual one, known as the “place of spiritual awakening” on the Shikoku Pilgrimage route.

By utilizing these strengths, we aim to create a Tokushima where people want to stay forever, where they always want to return to, and where everyone wants to visit, so let’s work to create this future together!

Governor of Tokushima Prefecture Masazumi Gotoda
