Tokushima Prefecture has so far held Japan’s first G20 International Conference on Consumer Policy in September 2019 in collaboration with the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA). Since July 2020, Tokushima Prefecture has also been pioneering projects together with the CAA’s Strategic Headquarters for Frontiers of Consumer Policy, which was established within the prefectural government as a national hub for policy development and international operations in consumer administration and education. The prefectural government is doing its utmost to build on the legacy inherited from the international conference to make Tokushima an international center for consumer policy.
This page introduces Tokushima Prefecture’s efforts toward the international development of consumer administration and consumer education.
On September 5 and 6, 2019, the G20 International Conference on Consumer Policy was held in Tokushima City as a side event of the G20 Osaka Summit, co-hosted by the Consumer Affairs Agency and Tokushima Prefecture. At this conference, participants from G20 countries and related organizations discussed common policy issues, such as addressing new consumer issues arising from the rapid progress of digitalization and promoting the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
Starting with the G20 International Conference on Consumer Policy, we have hosted a new international forum since 2020 to continue and build on the legacy of the international conference initiated in our prefecture. We have received innovative opinions from the world’s top leaders in ethical consumption as well as from constituents in Japan, with the aim of realizing a sustainable society. Available on demand.
Since FY2021, Tokushima Prefecture has been hosting an online exchange on consumer education and other themes between universities in Tokushima Prefecture and universities in ASEAN nations in an effort to further develop international cooperation in consumer policy tailored toward the post-COVID age.
For FY2022, under the theme of ”Practicing ’Consumption for the Future with the SDGs in Mind’ in the Digital Society,” each school was to prepare a handbook appropriate for their university and country on what they should pay attention to in order to practice ethical consumption and future-oriented consumption as consumers.
In addition, the universities that took part in this program gave presentations at the Tokushima International Consumer’s Forum 2022 on October 25, 2022.
