Beware of fake billing scams through SMS (Texting/Messaging Services)!

We have received consultations about billing scams lately, with reports saying, “I received a message saying ‘We have not been able to confirm your usage fees. Please contact XYZ customer support by the end of the day.’ with a phone number attached.”

「スマホにSMSで『ご利用料金の確認がとれていません。本日中に〇〇〇お客様サポートまでご連絡ください』と電話番号が書かれたメールが届いた」との相談が寄せられます。

The sender may claim to be an affiliate of a major phone company or an online shopping site, but in reality, they have no affiliation with any real companies. If you call the number despite your suspicions, they will claim that you have unpaid fees and demand payment. Even if you say that you don’t remember incurring the fees, they will say things like, “Even if you pay now, we will refund your money if we find there’s been a mistake after we investigate.”

発信元として大手電話会社の関連会社や、大手通販サイトなどを名乗りますが、このSMSは実在する企業とは一切関係がありません。不審だと思いながらも電話をすると有料サイト名を挙げて「未納料金がある」と請求されます。身に覚えがないと言っても「一旦支払っても、調査の上、間違いがあれば返金する」などと言われるようです。

This is a typical example of a fake billing scam, a type of bank transfer scam. Real people are falling victim to this. Never contact the number that is listed in the message.

これは振り込め詐欺の一種、架空料金請求詐欺の典型的な事例です。実際に被害に遭った方もいます。絶対に連絡しないようにしましょう。
