Is there really no need to cancel that subscription? Beware of problems with subscription purchases

The following consultation was received: “I ordered a 500-yen cosmetic product via an ad on social media saying, ‘No cancellation required.’ So after the product arrived, I did not cancel the order. However, then the same product arrived again. When I contacted the website and asked to return the second product, I was told that I had made a contract for a subscription purchase. This is not what they say in their social media ad.”

「SNSの広告で、『解約不要』と書かれた500円の化粧品を注文した。解約しないでいたら、2回目の商品が届いた。サイトに返品を申し出ると『定期購入になっている』と言われた。広告と違う」という相談が寄せられました。

As in this case, advertisements on social media and video advertisements may emphasize that the service they provide is “one-time only” or “no cancellation required.” Many of these are affiliate (performance-based) advertisements, and even if a sales site accessed from these advertisements shows that a subscription is one of the purchase conditions, it may be easily overlooked, leading to trouble. Please be careful when making purchases.

事例のように、SNS上の広告や動画広告では、「初回限り」や「解約不要」であることを強調している場合があります。これらはアフィリエイト（成果報酬型広告）として作られたものが多く、それらの広告からアクセスした販売サイトに「定期購入」が条件であることが表示されていても見逃してしまい、トラブルに発展するケースがあり、注意が必要です。

Do not simply trust advertised deals displayed on social networking sites. Before you place an order, you should check the sales website to see if there are any conditions for subscription, as well as check the total payment amount and cancellation/return policy and conditions.

SNS上に表示される広告のお得な情報だけをうのみにせず、注文する前に、定期購入が条件になっていないか、支払総額、解約・返品の方法や条件を販売サイトでよく確認しましょう。
