Beware of troubles relating to counterfeit goods!

From October 1, 2022, counterfeit goods, including those for personal use, sent to Japan from overseas dealers are liable to be confiscated by Customs authorities.

2022年10月1日から、海外の事業者から日本に模倣品が送付された場合は、個人使用の場合でも、税関で没収の対象となりました。

Points relating to enforcement measures against counterfeit goods

- If goods purchased on the Internet and sent by mail, etc. from an overseas dealer are counterfeit and discovered by Customs, they will be confiscated and will not reach the consumer.

- If the Customs authorities discover and suspect counterfeit goods to infringe on intellectual property, verification procedures will commence and a ‘Notice of Commencement of Verification Procedures’ will be sent to the consumer from the Customs authorities. If the goods have been verified as infringing on intellectual property, they will be confiscated.

When purchasing goods on the Internet, before you place your order, ensure that the website is trustworthy.

模倣品取締り強化のポイント

・インターネット通販で購入され、海外の事業者から郵送等により国内に送付された商品が模倣品であり、それが税関において発見された場合は、没収され、消費者の手元には届きません。

・税関において知的財産を侵害する疑いのある模倣品を発見した場合、認定手続が開始され、消費者には、税関から「認定手続開始通知書」が届きます。最終的に、知的財産を侵害する物品に該当すると認定された場合は、その模倣品は没収されます。

インターネット通販で商品を購入する場合は、信頼できるサイトかどうか、注文する前によく見極めましょう。

- The price is cheaper than the brand’s or manufacturer’s standard price

- Rare or items not available on the market can be found on this site

- The dealer’s name, address and phone number are not clearly stated

- The overseas telephone country code number does not match the address (location)

- The enquiries e-mail address is a ‘free mail’ address

- The enquiries telephone number cannot be reached

- Policies regarding cancellations, returned goods, or refunds are not listed

- Payment is only by bank transfer

・サイトのURLの表記が、ブランドの正式な英語表記と少しだけ異なる

・ブランド、メーカー品で価格が通常より安い

・市場では希少なものがこのサイトでは入手可能となっている

・事業者の名称、住所、電話番号が明確に表記されていない

・海外の電話番号の国番号が住所地と異なる

・問い合わせ先のメールアドレスがフリーメール

・問合せ電話番号が通じない

・キャンセル、返品、返金のルールがどこにも記載されていない

・支払方法が銀行振込に限定されている

Regarding information about a dealer’s address and contact information, on Japanese language websites, information can be found on the Kaisha Gaiyo (About us), O-toiawase (Contact us) or Tokutei Shotorihi Ho ni motozuku hyoki (Notation based on the Specified Commercial Transaction Act) pages. On English language websites, information can be found on ‘About us’ or Contact us’ pages. These pages can usually be found on the links in the footer of the website.

事業者の住所や連絡先は、日本語表記のサイトの場合には、「会社概要」や「お問い合わせ」、「特定商取引法に基づく表記」のページに記載されています。

英語表記のサイトの場合には、「About us」（事業者情報）や「Contact us」（問合わせ）のページに記載されています。これらのページはサイトの一番下のフッダー部分からリンクがはられていることが多いようです。
