We have received consultations from many citizens, who were lured by online advertisements, such as for cosmetic cream at “a trial price of 500 yen” or for supplements at “an initial price of 300 yen,” to buy just once for trial but realized afterwards that it was a subscription requiring multiple continued purchases. 

「お試し価格500円」の化粧クリームや「初回300円」のサプリメント等のネットの広告を見て、1回だけのつもりで注文したが、複数回の継続購入が条件の定期購入になっていたとの相談が、数多く寄せられています。

As the contract details may be displayed away from conspicuous text like “~% off” or written in small letters, it is necessary to pay close attention when making purchases, such as looking at every inch of the screen.

詳細な契約内容は、「〇%オフ」等の目立つ表示とは離れた場所に表示されていたり、小さい字で記載されていたりすることがある為、画面の隅々まで見るなど注意が必要です。

Cancellation conditions are sometimes written on the advertisement, such as “cancellation requests must be made at least ~ days before the next shipment date.” In some cases, it is difficult to cancel the subscription, such as the phone not connecting when you call to cancel it.

また、「解約の申し出は次回発送日の〇日前まで」との解約条件が定められていることもあります。さらに、解約しようと思っても業者に電話が繋がらないなど、解約することが困難な場合もあります。

When purchasing, be sure to check the contract details including cancellation conditions and whether or not it is a subscription service and also keep records by saving or printing the final confirmation screen.
